About

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched on Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students. which has now spread over 657 Universities and 51 +2 Councils/Directorates, covering 20,669 Colleges/ Technical Institutions  with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Since inception , over 7.4 crore students have benefitted from NSS.

Bapatla Engineering College was allotted three National Service Scheme Units by Acharya Nagarjuna University and appointed the three program officers.

Objectives

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

  1. Understand the community in which we work.
  2. Understand ourselves in relation to their community.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve ourselves in problem solving.
  1. Develop among ourselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  2. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  3. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  1. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
  2. Practice national integration and social harmony.

Motto

The Motto of NSS, “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation for another person’s point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrine in this motto, which underlines the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

NSS Symbol

The symbol of the National Service Scheme,is based on the ‘RATH’ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa.These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release,and signify the movement in life across time and space.The design of the symbol,a simplified form of the Sun-chariot wheel primarly depicts movement.The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life.It stands for continuty as well as change and implies the continuos striving of NSS for social transformation and upliftment

NSS Badge

The NSS symbol is embosed on the NSS badge.The NSS volunteers wear it while undertaking any program of community service.The Konark Wheel in the symbol has eight bars which represents the 24 hours of the day.Hence,the badge remains the wearer to be in readiness for service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.The Red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood i.e. lively,active energitic and full of high spirit.The navy Blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part,ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
